After a moment, her feet moved on their own, leading her toward the washroom. But halfway there, she stumbled on something-his wallet. She bent down, picking it up with trembling hands, a strange heaviness settling in her chest.
Opening it, her eyes immediately landed on a small, worn photograph tucked inside. Her breath hitched as she took in the image-a couple, happy and radiant. It didn't take her long to recognize them. Sameer. Jiya.
Her fingers traced the photograph with care, her vision swimming. Jiya was beautiful, breathtaking even, with sharp features and a radiant smile. Sameer was hugging her from behind, his arms wrapped protectively around her shoulders, his face alight with laughter. She noticed the ring on Jiya's finger-the same ring she had once stumbled upon in his wardrobe.
Her thumb brushed over the photograph, and a lone tear escaped, falling onto the image, smudging the colors slightly. Her voice trembled as she whispered through a broken sob, "Kitne ache lag rahe ho dono ek saath... ek dum perfect couple."
She stumbled into the washroom, locking the door behind her with trembling hands. Her knees gave way, and she sank to the cold tiled floor, her body wracked with uncontrollable sobs. The dam she had held for so long finally broke, and her tears streamed freely, releasing the anguish she had buried deep within.
The pain she had carried silently, suffocating her every moment, now poured out in waves of sorrow. She wept bitterly, each sob pulling her deeper into the memories that haunted her- the reason he didn't sleep with her on bed..the reason he always ignored her...the reason he never talks to her freely, not even as a friend.
Her arms wrapped tightly around her knees as she curled into herself, as though trying to shield her heart from breaking further. She cried, her soul aching with the yearning for love-love she had craved, love she had begged for in silence. But all she had received was indifference, as though she was invisible.
She replayed his words, the way he praised beauty, but never hers. The way his eyes never lingered on her with the affection she so desperately wished for. She felt humiliated, undeserving, and hollow.
"Kaash... kaash meri bhi koi hota..." she whispered, her voice trembling with despair. Her words clawed at her heart, leaving her shattered. "Jo mujhe aise pyaar se dekhta jo mujhe chahta"
Her breaths came in short gasps as she buried her face in her hands. The ache of longing was unbearable. She wanted to feel seen, cherished, and loved-not as an obligation but as someone worthy, someone who mattered.
But all she could feel now was the emptiness of being overlooked, her heart breaking under the weight of unspoken dreams.
Next morning,
Sameer POV:-
'Ahhhh' I groaned, clutching my head tightly.
My eyes drifted to the empty room. I was still wearing yesterday's clothes.
'Mein kal raat aise hi so gaya?'
I couldn't remember what happened last night but I surely know what I should do from now onwards.
Flashback:-
Sameer POV:-
'Sameer tum yaha iss waqt?' Jiya asked me in a surprised manner.
'Haa mein kyu khush nahi ho mujhe dekke ??' I asked in a sad voice.
She looks at me..
'Ohhh khush hogi bhi kaise boyfriend jo mil gayi h aur ek h na??!!!' I added sarcasm dripping out from my tongue.
She frowns, ' Kya bakwas bole ja rahe ho tum? Kya boyfriend??kaunsa boyfriend??'
'Abb tum mujhse jhuth bhi bolne lagi ho..sahi hai bahut'..I said angrily.
'Tum agar pehle mujhe bata deti ki you are tired of having me..then kab ka mein tumhe chor deti...yeh sab natak Karne ki kya zaroorat thi tumhe??' I added.
'Kya bole jaa rahe ho tum ,zara clearly bataoge ..I am not able to understand anything...aur jo bologe thora dhire bolo..ye apartment hain...bahut log rehte hain yahan...' she says in an irritating voice.
I stared at her eyes, 'Dekha meine Aaj tumhe ...Bunch cafe mein ..ek larke k sath..kaise hask baat kar rahe thein tum dono..mujhe nahi pata tha ki ek din yeh bhi dekhna padega..how could you?? You che-'
Author's POV:-
Before he could complete that word,a tight slap landed on his face as he shockingly look at her holding his cheek.
'Jiya tum-ne mujhe thap-'she cut his word.
'Don't you dare complete that sentence Sameer ...' she said angrily.
He was about to say something, but she cut him..
'Shut up ...just shut up...bohut bol liya tumhne...ab mein bolungi aur tum sunoge'..
' Kam se kam kuch bolne se pehale soch toh liya karo kya bol rahe ho?? He is not my boyfriend idiot..he is my fiance' she said.
He looks at her in shock, whispering, 'What??'
She nods her head, ' Haa Meri engagement ho chuki h kal..'
She said while showing her ring finger for proof.
'And by the way tum pehle ye batao ki tum itni raat ko ek anjan ladki k ghar k samne kya kar rahe ho??' she said folding her hands glaring at him.
'Anjan larki Jiya?? Anjan ladki kaise..you re my girlfriend' he says .
'Haa girlfriend thi...ab nahi hu..tum sayad bhule raho Sameer we had already broke up.. and the most important thing is now you are a married man ...tumhe abhi apne wife k paas hona chahiye aur naki yaha mere paas'
Her words hit me like a slap harder than the one she'd just given.
"Jiya..." he whispered, his voice cracking as guilt crawled up in his throat.
"Don't do it, Sameer. Just don't." Her voice quivered, a mix of frustration and despair. "I know you're a gentleman, but right now, you're behaving like a typical jerk."
She paused, taking a shaky breath, her tone softening as pain seeped into her words.
"I know it's tough-it's just as hard for me. I'm trying to move on from my past too, giving myself another chance. Kyunki jo sach hai, you have to accept it. I know we dreamed big, Sameer. We had so many plans, so many hopes. But what's the point of holding on to something that's not meant to be? Har sapna sach nahi hota."
He looks away. Every word she spoke sliced through my soul.
'Tumhare wife soch rahe hain ki you are working late in your office and waiting for your arrival ..and just see your self what you're doing.Sameer, you need to understand that what you're doing is not just betraying her but also deceiving yourself. What's her fault in all this? Does she deserve this kind of treatment from you?"
He stares at her as tears form in his eyes. His mind is now playing everything how since the first night he behaved with her.
Tears welled up in his eyes as the weight of his mistakes pressed down on him. Memories of how he treated his wife since their wedding night came flooding back. Every moment she tried to bridge the gap between them, and every time he had pushed her away and he could barely hold back the lump in his throat.
'Your eyes are telling everything, Sameer. They reveal just how you deeply hurt her with your actions. I am a woman too and I can understand the emotions of another woman. You can't betray her like this- it's unfair, cruel and undeserved.
She took a step closer, her voice firm yet tinged with compassion.
'There's still time, Sameer. Wake up to reality before it's too late. Let go of the past because holding onto it will only lead to regrets you can never undo. You can't fix your mistakes later when the damage is already done'.
Pausing, she looked at him intently,
'Go now. If you have truly realized your mistake, apologize to her. Be honest about everything - our past, all of it. Start over with her, fresh and clean. Trust me,she will understand. But you owe her truth first'.
She folded her arms and raised an eyebrow. 'Now stop standing here staring at me.Go fix what you've broken. And if you repeat this mistake or act like an asshole again, I'll swear I'll chop your head off with my kitchen knife'.
Sameer couldn't help but let out a faint smile at her fiery tone, but her words had struck a nerve. He turned and walked away, her final words ringing in his mind.
It's time to stop running from his mistakes. It's time to make things right.
