Author's POV:-

A woman is shown who is just sitting silently staring at the pregnancy kit which is showing negative result. One pink line.

'Ritika??' her husband calls her from outside their room, who didn't respond him and just sitting silently gripping the kit.

He came close to her and seeing the negative result, he doesn't know what to say. He just took her into his arms.

'Its okay Ritika..when the right time will come ,we will have our child' he said caressing her hair.

She looks at him with teary eyes, 'Kab Ahaan?? It's been two years we are trying ...but the result is as usual same'

He shook his head wiping her eyes. He too had tears in his eyes. Without saying anything he just pressed her head on his chest.

'Itna jaldi haar manne se ho jayega kya ??' he whisper.

'Ahaan??' she calls him softly.

'Hmm..' he hummed with closed eyes.

'Kal hospital chalte hain..' she whispered, her words so sudden that they made him stiffen.

His eyes snapped open, confusion flashing across his face.

"Huh?" he asked, pulling back slightly, his arms still loosely wrapped around her.

She breaks the hug and cups his both cheek.

"Yes, Ahaan... What harm will it do to get checked once? At least it will give us peace of mind. I know we both are fit and fine… but still, we can be sure." Her voice was soft yet firm, her eyes searching his for agreement.

Ahaan simply stared at her, his heart heavy. He had no issue with going to the hospital, no reluctance in taking the tests, but the thought of what might happen if—by any cruel twist of fate—they found something wrong, terrified him. If there was even the slightest complication, it would shatter her. And he… he could never bear to see his  love broken.

'Please mana mat karna..' she pleads.

He sighed hugging her tightly.

"Okay, as you wish… but promise me one thing—that if the test results show something wrong—God forbid, nothing should happen—you will never lose hope, never break down. No matter what happens, we’ll face it together.I'll be always there for you".

She tightened her grip around him, "I promise...I love you.." she whispered.

He smiled kissing her forehead, 'I love you too'

The next day, as per the doctor's advice, Ahaan and Ankita underwent all the necessary tests. Now, they sat in the doctor's cabin, their hands tightly clasped together, their hearts pounding as the doctor carefully read through the reports.

Ahaan could feel the coldness in Ankita’s hand, her fingers trembling with nervous anticipation. He gently rubbed her palm, trying to soothe her anxiety, and blinked reassuringly, silently promising that everything would be alright.

The silence in the room was suffocating, stretching unbearably until Ahaan finally spoke, his voice laced with a mix of hope and fear.

"Doctor, everything is fine, right?"

The doctor exhaled deeply, placing the reports on the table before shaking his head. The small gesture sent a wave of unease crashing over them.

Both Ahaan and Ankita tensed instantly, their stomachs knotting with dread.

"What happened, doctor? I can become a mother, right? There’s no problem with me, is there?" Ankita asked, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes pleading for reassurance.

The doctor looked at her with a kind yet serious expression. "Your reports are absolutely normal, Mrs. Sharma. You are perfectly healthy and capable of conceiving a child."

Ahaan and Ankita barely had a second to breathe a sigh of relief before the doctor’s next words shattered them.

"But sadly, the issue lies with your husband."

Ahaan felt the ground slip beneath him. His breath hitched, and his grip on Ankita’s hand tightened.

"What?" he murmured, his voice barely escaping his lips.

The doctor nodded solemnly. "Yes, Mr. Sharma… after thoroughly reviewing your reports, it is clear that your chances of fathering a child are extremely low. To be precise, the chances are only about 5%."

The air around them grew unbearably heavy. Ahaan felt a cold chill creep up his spine as he turned to look at his wife. Ankita sat completely still, her face devoid of any expression, her eyes fixed on the doctor as if trying to process the words she had just heard.

For a few moments, neither of them spoke. They were too stunned to even react. The dream they had cherished—the dream of holding their baby, of building a family together—now seemed to be slipping away from their grasp.

Swallowing the lump in his throat, Ahaan finally found his voice. "Is there… is there no solution for this?" he asked, his tone filled with desperate hope.

The doctor sighed, his expression sympathetic. "I’m afraid there’s no medical alternative, Mr. Sharma. The chances of natural conception are almost negligible. However, if you have any doubts, you can always seek a second opinion."

They stepped out of the doctor's cabin, the reports clutched tightly in Ahaan’s trembling hands. The world outside felt the same—people walking, nurses rushing, patients waiting—but for them, everything had changed. Ahaan felt a strange numbness creeping over him, as if reality had just dealt him a blow too heavy to bear.

His throat was dry, his mind clouded with a hundred thoughts, yet he found himself unable to string together a single sentence. What could he even say? How was he supposed to comfort her when he himself felt so lost?

His gaze shifted to Ritika, searching her face for some kind of reaction, some words—anything—but she remained eerily silent. Her expression was unreadable, her eyes void of any emotion. She wasn’t crying, nor was she looking at him. She just walked beside him, holding the reports mechanically, as if she were on autopilot.

Ahaan had never seen her this quiet before. His Ritika, who always had something to say, who would tease him endlessly, who would fill every silence with her voice—was now completely still.

The silence between them was suffocating. He wanted her to say something, anything, even if it was anger, frustration, or blame. But she didn’t. And that scared him more than anything.

"Riti…ka…" Ahaan called her softly, his fingers wrapping around her cold palm, seeking the warmth that usually reassured him.

She barely responded, just humming in acknowledgment, but her hand remained motionless in his grasp—no gentle squeeze, no sign of comfort.

Ahaan felt his chest tighten. This silence… it was worse than any words she could have said.

"Please… don't stay so quiet," he whispered, his voice thick with emotions. "Hum aise haar nahi maan sakte, na? We should still take a second opinion… there has to be another solution. I'm sure we'll find a way…"

He was trying to be the strong one, trying to reassure her, even when it was his world that had just shattered.

Where Ritika should have been the one to calm him, to offer him support, to tell him that they would find a way—it was the exact opposite.

He was the one holding her hand, the one trying to ease her fears, the one desperately searching for hope in a situation that had left him broken.

"Ghar chalte hain, Ahaan… I’m feeling tired," Ritika said blankly, her voice devoid of any emotion.

Ahaan looked at her, searching for something—anger, sadness, frustration—anything that could give him a glimpse into what she was feeling. But there was nothing. Just an eerie calmness that unsettled him.

Still, a small part of him felt relieved. She had finally spoken, even if it was just a simple request.

"Haan, chalo chalte hain…" he nodded quickly, holding onto her hand a little tighter, as if afraid she would slip away completely.

"Baaki sab ghar jaake discuss karenge, theek hai?" His voice was gentle, coaxing, as if he was trying to pull her out of the numbness she had wrapped herself in.

He couldn't let Ritika slip into darkness—because for him, she wasn’t just family. She was his home, the very reason he was still breathing.

Ritika didn’t respond. She just gave a slow nod and started walking towards the exit. He helps her in opening the door of the passenger seat, helping her in wearing the seatbelt.
